An ENT endoscopy is a medical procedure used to examine the ears, nose, and throat (ENT) using a specialized instrument called an endoscope. The endoscope is a thin, flexible tube with a light and camera at the tip, allowing the doctor to view the inside of the ear canal, nasal passages, sinuses, throat, and larynx (voice box) on a monitor in real time.
The procedure is commonly performed to diagnose conditions like sinus infections, nasal obstructions, throat cancer, vocal cord issues, ear infections, or sleep apnea. ENT endoscopy can also be used for treatment purposes, such as removing polyps, taking tissue biopsies, or draining infected sinus cavities.
Types of ENT Endoscopy:
Nasal Endoscopy: Involves inserting the endoscope through the nostrils to inspect the nasal passages and sinuses.
Laryngoscopy: A type of endoscopy used to examine the larynx or voice box.
Otoscopy: Focuses on inspecting the ear canal and eardrum.
